After making his MLB debut and earning the extra-inning win over Boston Monday night, #Rays LHP Ian Seymour was optioned back to Triple-A Durham and RHP Mason Englert was recalled from Durham this afternoon.

Instead of “wishing USF was relevant” (which team has bowl wins the last two years again?), maybe UCF fans need to worry about getting their own program relevant again. I believe the phrase is “you hate us because you ain’t us.”. #GoUSF.
Admit it, UCF fans, you miss hating USF! Here's my column wishing USF was relevant again and the Bulls could somehow join the Knights in the Big 12:

Were your children born here? If so, you could tell them they could root for the Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings as long as they aren’t playing Tampa Bay. #Rays #Bucs #Lightning.
@stevecarney We root for both. I’m from Detroit. We root for all the Detroit teams. We also root for the Rays, Bucs and Bolts as long as they’re not playing Detroit.

Are we sure there isn’t an open 40-man spot for Longo? The #Rays face a lefty in Ryan Weathers this afternoon against the Marlins.

@stevecarney Carney, what is your objective here? Are you just trying to get love from those who agree with you or anger the others? I am going to my sixth game this year so I have a little room to talk. Too many 1pm and even 4pm games already.

They do in Atlanta. I looked at last year’s team, and between June 1 and August 31, they had one home game with an announced attendance under 30k: a Thursday day game against Milwaukee on August 8 that drew 29,935z.
@stevecarney I think it’s very different more during it. Open stadium in the middle of summer with direct heat. Nobody in their freaking right mind is gonna go to an open stadium at 1 o’clock in the middle of the week to a baseball game.

And I’m not ripping the fanbase or any reason why they may not want to go to Steinbrenner. I have said that I will NEVER tell someone how to spend their money. But the trolls/blowhards that thought that a Tampa stadium to play in would solve the #Rays dilemmas were loud wrong.
@stevecarney I’ll give a pass for day games during the week. No excuse for night games. It’s not that hot yet.

I live in St. Pete, and drive to Raymond James Stadium and Amalie Arena for nearly every game. Traffic isn’t an issue for me, never has been. So you’re wrong about that…at least with me.
One thing I would find funny is that, if the Rays moved to Tampa, the Pinellas Press would inevitably whine about the commute to a new Rays Stadium in YBor City. Thereby confirming the problem with Tropicana field.

Still…Orlando, yuck.
@stevecarney Tampa Bay has had 30 years to develop a large fanbase and failed at every opportunity.

Eww.
@stevecarney sounds like a good reason to keep the team in the media market and move them to Orlando for the multi-state fans to have their cake and eat it too.

Next it’ll be an indoor stadium that the taxpayers paid 0 for…. Then the ownership needs to keep every drafted player and sign every free agent…. Then they need to give away tickets…. Blowhards and trolls - always moving the goalposts. #Rays.
@stevecarney That was assuming other variables though Carney. Hypothetically if an indoor stadium was in Tampa.

Apples to apples: If the Trop held 10,046, they would have sold out 81 games last year. #Rays.
@stevecarney If you want a true apples to apples comparison it needs to be a dome in Tampa. Not an outdoor mine league ballpark. I would also say I bet there have already been more sellouts in Tampa this year than any year at the Trop.

There are too many baseball fans in this market who have allegiances to other teams, who have taught their children to be fans of their team instead of cheering on the hometown team. I have friends who are guilty of it too. #Rays.
My point to this exercise was to point out to the bloviators and trolls who believed that a stadium in Tampa would solve all the problems with the #Rays that they were, in fact, wrong. A new stadium helps, but the main problem the team faces is a lack of a generational fanbase.
