"It is a grisly day for America — or would be, if he had not banned gristle! It is just awful what is happening — or would be, if he had not banned offal!" Some genius writing in WaPo. @petridishes

The 61% number is sad. Americans (at least 39%) seem to love gate keeping and hurdles put in place for democracy. But, people like expanding the vote more than politicians.
Pew poll:. 61% of Americans support automatically registering all eligible citizens to vote. 70% support allowing people convicted of felonies to vote after serving their sentences. 78% support making early, in-person voting available for at least two weeks prior to Election Day.

Wow. I fell good retweeting the President.
We’ve made enormous progress when it comes to COVID-19, but new variants are spreading quickly. Now is not the time to let up — we have to hold the line while we get the country vaccinated. Wash your hands. Stay socially distanced. Wear a mask. Get vaccinated when you can.

Please keep repeating this. I have been exhausted by rampant both-sidesism for 20 years. The @GOP wants government to fail and wants power and will change their votes on almost any issue. Many Dems actually want policy that works. The sides are different w/ different tactics.
While Trump was president, EVERY Democrat voted for the $2 trillion CARES Act, even though doing so helped Trump. While Biden is president, ZERO Republicans voted for the $1.9 trillion American Relief Plan, because hurting Biden is more important than helping Americans.

This is an excellent thread about Syria. Better than anything I have read in the mainstream press.
20 years ago today, I was at a Damascus hair salon when an assistant rushed to tell us Hafez Assad had died. What I saw and lived in the next days and years is set in stone in my memory. This thread is but a glimpse of life in #Syria then and the slow descent into implosion. /1.
