It's conference season! Probably. Somewhere. Anyhow I have thoughts on how to get the most out of conferences. https://t.co/u3zHZcdQDn

I often have the opportunity to talk to graduate students about what it's like being an academic. In an effort to share how I've navigated that process, I've started a YouTube channel. Here is my first video! https://t.co/uCIaEfwbgH

I recently earned tenure, and I've reflected on what that means as a first-generation Mexican American. There aren't too many of us in this position, which is a shame. https://t.co/5bQZVth71j

A tough situation, and in my opinion an entirely avoidable one. We can't throw in emerging tech into classrooms and expect them to work, nor can we expect startups to fully understand the complexities of classroom instruction.

First candid post-tenure observation: Academics' common response to *any* politically salient/volatile situation is to write a letter, or append one's name a letter. I suspect that such actions are (on average) self-serving, ineffective, and create unproductive litmus tests.

I know academics like to say/write "utilize," but can we stop doing it? "Use" is perfectly fine 99.9% of the time. More syllables does not make for more compelling thinking/writing/speaking.

By far the best use of ChatGPT for me thus far was trying to figure out the name of a band that I listened to 15 years ago. Here is my journey to remembering that I liked ONE particular album by Darren Hayes. https://t.co/dtVuPDPT5q

Same. First time I applied (2005) I didn't get any offers. Second time around (2008), I received 4-5 offers.

Always do. But the core issue is that policies communicate norms, and that norm is archaic and can undermine productivity. Our field needs to move on, move faster, and be more evidence-based.
