As I leave for New York to attend @UN’s two-state solution conference some welcome news that Israel has paused military activities in Gaza to allow food to reach starving Palestinians. It is not enough, a full ceasefire is needed & an end to this shameful, man-made famine
Next week’s High-level Conference on the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution is an important step toward sustainable peace. I commend co-chairs, France and Saudi Arabia, for their leadership and commitment to facilitate this event.

After 4.5 wonderful years, my time as Ambassador of Iceland to Japan has come to an end. It has been a true privilege to represent 🇮🇸 in this remarkable country. I am deeply grateful for the warm friendships, inspiring cooperation, and countless memories I’ve made along the way.

Iran‘s nuclear program is of great concern and we urge the leadership to negotiate in earnest to put an end to it. We must avoid further escalation in the region. I repeat: International law must guide us—diplomacy and dialogue are the only way forward.

Yesterday Russia conducted yet another despicable attack on Ukrainian cities and civilians. 24 killed and 134 injured in Kyiv. We must strengthen our resolve and determination to support Ukraine to the fullest. We need stronger sanctions now. Appeasement is not the road to peace.

Instead of a peace memorandum Russia sends missiles and drones to terrorize and kill Ukraine’s civilian population. Instead of accepting an unconditional ceasefire Russia delays, distracts and defies. More sanctions on Russia and more support for Ukraine is needed without delay.
