๐ฎ Real hardware. Obscure systems. Bad takes. ๐ผ Last of the 3DO Fanboys. โA misunderstood genius of poor purchasing decisions.โ

I collect โ70s, โ80s & โ90s consoles. Iโm terrible at games, good at hoarding, and apparently allergic to modern hardware. I have more money than sense (ยฃ3.87), and I mostly potter about in retro gaming with no real talent or plan.

I assure you that 'stuff' on the keys in the second picture is Cream Peroxide. ๐ซค

Fancy Retro Influences do "Trash to Treasure", therefore I'm promoting my own budget version, which is "Trash to likely Landfill". Exhibit A. (wish me luck)

Jaws! Released in 1983 on the Dragon 32/64. I'm not entirely convinced this was an official movie tie-in.๐ The graphics are surprisingly good, all things considered though.

I very much remember loving this game in the early 1990s, despite 2 stone-cold facts. 1. It was bloody expensive. I want to say ยฃ1 per go. 2. It was bloody hard. Hard Drivin' by Atari Games.

Any fans of the ol' GameCube? I have a soft spot for this machine; this is my launch day box, and it has a lot of games that really appeal to me.

Japanese SHMUPS are the best... Guwange, Atlus, 1999... ๐๐

I thought I would play some Arcade games today, starting with Starblade. I remember seeing this in the arcades, back in the early '90s, and it blew my mind. I really liked this game.๐๐

Sinclair QL is a weird machine. It's not compatible with the Speccy; it has an 8-bit 68008 CPU (yes, 8-bit), networking built in, and two (count 'em) not hugely popular Microdrives. Looks good though

Ah, the ol' hand-operated planar navigation peripheral by Atari - STM1. Cleaned it, greased it, and replaced the switches, and it's as adequate as the day it came from the factory. ๐คฃ๐๐

My slightly scruffy, slightly pathetic, heavily curated to match my childhood favourite, Atari 2600 collection of games. ๐คฃ๐

Fan of retro systems such as the Jaguar, Lynx, or Nuon? How about Evercade and My Arcade? We've got ya covered in the Songbird newsletter. Read the latest edition here: https://t.co/krc9ZWBNk9

Tunnel Runner is one of three CBS games for the Atari 2600 with an additional 256 bytes of RAM in each cartridge, a feature promoted by CBS as "RAM Plus."

A slightly better shot of the Arabic Keyboard, which, to those of us who aren't familiar with Arabic Keyboards, looks pretty cool. I got this machine from Egypt, by the way.

So this is a special MSX2 machine. It's Sakhr AX-370, which is basically a Sanyo PHC-70FD MSX2, modified by a Kuwaiti company, for the Arabic market. The output shown here is an RF signal, too. Which I've decided is now a thing. ๐คฃ๐๐

Learning a lot about RF modulators lately. The Magnavox Odysseyยฒ had a superb one, Sinclairโs were rubbish, and Atari sat somewhere in between. Modern tuners expose it โ old CRTs were far more forgiving, and the manufacturers knew it.

That keyboard looks way better in the photos than it does in real life. ๐คฃ

It's boring, I know. But my STe has a new PSU, new RAM, a DMA fix under the FDD and a case refresh. One thing about the ST is that it's very much the Charlie Sheen of computers: It has a lot of screws, many of which do seem unnecessary. ๐คฃ๐๐
