The more I’ve let this album marinate, the more of these squares I feel could have been crossed off. Like the “innocent light” in Eldest Daughter feels very closely connected to the porch light in cardigan and Fresh Out The Slammer

It kills me that in all of this confusion, they’ll never once consider that the song might not be about him

also the “something wicked this way comes” is a reference to macbeth & the full quote is “by the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes.” which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy bc macbeth’s own hubris after hearing the full prophecy is what leads to his demise

It’s interesting, bc Act 1 Scene 3 is where Ophelia’s father and brother are both telling her to “stay away” from Hamlet and she defends their affection. It’s the same scene that has this line, directly referenced in TFOO

I just remembered there’s literally a Hamlet reference in But Daddy I Love Him

@stainedglasslor but I think Opalite, while being an imitation material, is still a positive in how it’s being invoked. “carnations we had thought were roses” type metaphor: making do with what you’ve got, making Opalite and sunshine out of eclipsed sun and winless fights.

Something about the drum/beat pairing in these songs linking them to each other and opalite being a false, man-made, “hoax” imitation of real opal
