i think that choice to be called El, while it is still attached to her past and the lab, is her making a choice to reclaim her identity as her own and become her own version of herself. despite her past and where the name comes from, she chose to redefine what that name meant.

i just don’t think she identifies with the name Jane. that identity was stolen from her by Brenner, and in season 2 she explored that, and i think her journey exploring that past made her realize that the life in which she was Jane was gone +.
we should normalize calling my girl by her birth name jane instead of calling her by the number brenner gave her.
