I should probably pin this bc its everything I ever had to say about making it "MAKING IT" in the movie industry
Most important VID explaining my entire journey with Hollywood making movies selling a few scripts having nothing happening for years despite my work ethic. This is what I mean when I say “make your movie”. Empower yourself & your creativity vs. waiting for Hollywood to choose U

There’s no right way to build a career in an artistic industry. For me, I felt stuck and frustrated writing scripts and waiting for the town to “call me back”. I wanted to be apart of the action. And having writing credits, while cool, wasn’t doing it for me in terms of a life.

You may not want to do this bc of the work load or the new skills you have to acquire but hell if I don’t tell everyone I meet to make their movie. Bc it got me out of a standstill I had with the industry (that wasn’t from lack of writing or hard work - just bad timing)

Make your movie ain’t about waiting for an opportunity or a budget it’s about creating your own that isn’t going to be glossy or perfect. But it’s real and it’s happening bc you set it in motion.

Hey it’s good to shoot high with your aspirations. But reality hits and you say: ok I’m doing all I can and Hollywood is not scooping me up. What else can I do IN MY POWER? Not someone else’s. So I pick up a DSLR camera & for 500 dollars shoot a micro budget feature

If I didn’t adopt the “make your movie” philosophy to this town, I’d still be sitting around waiting for CAA to sign me for one of my 17 spec scripts, yes I wrote 17 and with the intention of landing myself in a room with Tom Cruise and convincing him to do my sci script.

A message to all writers out there, who dream of making it in the movie business. Keep writing. That's all you can do. You never know which script will open doors.

When you realize how long you have to live with each film you embark on, you truly value the creatives who are collaborative, easy to work with, align with your values and never put their egos over the project. Talent grows on trees. Cherish the grounded individual with passion.

I will turn down working with talented people because they are difficult to work - every day of the week! Life is too short to make movies with people who are a headache, whose ego hurt the project + joy of working, despite their gifts. This is not a subtweet to anyone here fyi

Collaboration with the most talented people you can find for the story, under the umbrella of a singular vision is what directing is about to me.

Still looking for a few more original songs from fantastic bands or solo artists. Hmu. It has to fit into a teen horror film. Angst is great.

I don’t think there’s anyone who ever went after this movie business life and thought with certainty it was gonna work and their plan went accordingly. It’s a leap. But we do it because we love movies and being creative.

My mom wrote a fantastic novel. I need to figure out who or what place to give it to. Anyone have any idea? Never done anything in publishing books. But really want to help her!

The hardest thing about deciding to pursue a career in making movies is understanding that good things take time. For me at least.

A short film worth checking out! So creative. And well executed. Exciting to see originality paying off and how you can tell a story with a single shot. Stars @LukeBarnett
