Scale with the help of legal operations. “You cannot scale without a well-structured legal ops team. There have been times when I needed resources. Rather than funding another lawyer role, I funded a legal ops program manager because I knew the value I'd get from that.” (8/11).

Build a network you can rely on. “I often catch up with my connections about challenges in privacy. If someone posts something interesting in your research, they’ll be open to talk about it. Fostering those connections is important when you’re working in-house.” (7/11).

Align instinct-driven decision-making with data. “It's important to be an evidence-based lawyer, especially in the technology space. At the same time, I'm a big proponent of intuition and gut. I listen to the instinct and then try to look for the data that supports it.” (6/11).

Break away from the traditional legal role. “In-house counsel are often put into boxes. Some folks will always want to say, ‘I just need Legal to approve this.’ I do think that under-appreciation comes from a restrictiveness of what Legal can do in an organization.” (5/11).

Make user-centric decisions. “Don't lose sight of your users. Put them at the top of every decision that you make. Know what your customers want, and try not to get desensitized. This will always be a good weather vane for making decisions.” (4/11).
