Not at all weird. Engineers from good colleges have certain IQ, exposure to world, bend of mind. Engineering develops logical & analytical thinking, problem solving skills which other education & professions don't need or don't have to accomplish it.
There is something about the people who have done engineering or have a tech background. They naturally hold knowledge of other domains too, whether it is finance, marketing, sports, or politics. Name the thing, and they have an idea of it. Weird Though!

This is utter wrong advice. Don't go for higher cover at such young age even with such low difference. It is gimmick by mediclaim companies to trap u in higher premiums. Between 25-40 insure for 5L only, 40-50 insure for 10L only, 50-70 insure for 15L only, 70 onwards 0 insurance
Health insurance for a 30 year old with a wife and a 2 year old daughter: ₹5 lakh = ₹13,500 ₹10 lakh = ₹15,700 The premium difference is small, but the coverage jump is big. Choosing a higher sum insured makes more sense as medical costs keep rising.
