As a minister, I’m obsessed with passages that are ripped extremely out of context to make political points. The worst of the worst, “I found my buzzword in a Bible verse” offenders. Speaker Johnson did it recently with 2 Cor 5.18 and the reconciliation bill.

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around how the flooding in Texas became so devastating so quickly. Why not evacuate??. Then I saw this: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in just 45 minutes, around 4 a.m. That doesn’t even seem natural.

Sorry, not sorry, not going to care about Orc City because I grew up with an alcoholic, psychologically abusive father in constant state of distress, anxiety and worry about the future. Hearing the key in the door every evening was my own 'Orc City' for almost 20 years.
