RIP Lucille Hoback Boggess, 96. She lost both her brothers on D-Day, one of my primary sources when writing The Bedford Boys.

Men of the 7th Army attack the Siegfried Line in the Vosges Mountains today in 1944. This long, bitter struggle is described in my book, Against All Odds.

The bloody battle for Metz continues. Patton's Third Army endures heavy losses today in 1944 as it faces dozens of fortresses—much to Patton's great frustration. Soon, he will ask his chief chaplain to compose a prayer for good weather. See my book, Patton's Prayer.

The 101st Airborne dropped into Holland today in 1944. One of the drop zones was near Best, shown in my photo on the right. Operation Market Garden showed the Screaming Eagles at their very best, with more than 90% of those dropped landing in their targeted zones.

Day 4 of @WWIIMemorial #FinalVictoryTour with @kershaw_alex: Dachau was first and longest-operating Nazi concentration camp. Over 200,000 were imprisoned. More than 41,500 died. 30,000 were freed by U.S. forces. A solemn day—and a pledge: never again. #NeverForget #WeRememberThem

There were some Germans - very few - who dared to oppose Nazism during total war. Sophie Scholl and a small group of students in Munich distributed anti Nazi leaflets and were guillotined after arrest. They belonged to the so called White Rose movement. @WWIIMemorial
