Sooo. I am unironically building a better mitmweb for @mitmproxy now 🧑‍💻. It's still very much a work in progress, so don't judge it too harshly yet.

So I was like "how hard can it really be to build something like this?". I decided to challenge myself to build a worldtimeapi clone (POC) within 24 hours. I succeeded :).

Initially we used but they were down half of the time, slow response times and it said in their FAQ that it shouldn't be used for commercial use because they can't guarantee uptime. The paid alternatives were way overpriced.

I just shipped my most random project over the weekend: A while back my friend and I developed a side-project involving residential HTTP proxies and we couldn't find a reliable API to translate the IP address to timezone details. Rambling on below 👇.

Second project, using TRPC subscriptions, requires a websocket server or endpoint to stream logs from a backend process to the browser. There are third party solutions but everything comes with its own limitations and pricing plans while a VPS can just . handle it all.

For one project I bumped into the request body size limit of 4MB on Vercel. I actually needed to process files as they were uploaded to the server with a custom algo, so the usual advice to "just upload directly to your S3 bucket" wasn't applicable unfortunately.

Gave Vercel a shot for 2 different projects this year, still ended up hosting everything on a VPS + Cloudflare for caching. Maybe the next project will be different.
