I'm so pleased to see a surge in Appalachian fiction right now. It's super timely.

Happy Holidays, folks! No end of posts this year for obvious reasons but I will try to circle back with my favorite reads from 2023 in January. Hope you all have a wonderful end of the year!

Our son Wendell was born last weekend in the wee hours of the morning. He is perfect. Understandably, I am devoting most of my waking moments to his cultivation so imagine I will be absent from here for a while. 🥰

I know where I want it to go and I usually have a good idea of the beginning and a sketch of the end. There's a whole sea of middle there, and always the chance the ending will change. I don't understand how people don't write like that! It's terrifying to me! 😅
fascinated to discover that there are plenty of authors out there who start publishing a series without fully knowing the plot of where the next books go. they just like... write it as they go??? if you do this, just know that I fear you. I admire you, but I fear you.

Tbh I still rate some books at 3.5 stars that are otherwise good books. They just didn't hit for me. But I get this 100% as an expectation for reviewers.
Most books, realistically, are 3.5 stars or thereabouts, but we live with a book ratings system where anything less than 5 stars means the book was an abject failure or the reviewer has beef with the author.

This theatre company does not seem to be on Twitter currently, and I'm not sure what I am hoping to gain by posting this. I think this whole incident has made me reflect deeply on how privileged I normally am in my able body, and how easy it is for bureaucracy to be weaponized.

Yet a volunteer usher and a single employee banded together to harass me because, again at full term as a pregnant woman, I had a water bottle to manage my medical needs.

The sheer pettiness of this was absolutely baffling to me. It ruined my night and left me confused and heartsore. I've debated talking about it at all or making a complaint to the theatre, because it all seems so ridiculous. I love this venue and their mission.

The rationale was that there could be no outside food or drink. But the bottle at that point was totally empty. We offered to wash it out in the sink or fountain if there was concern about substances. They still confiscated the bottle. They offered me a small plastic cup.

All this happened while the play was actively going on so I didn't want to disrupt other viewers in a small venue. AFTER recovering my water bottle and taking it outside to empty it, they confiscated the empty bottle upon my reentry into the theatre.
