Tennessee was in the first four CFP rankings. SEC teams benefited from wins over Tennessee and inflated their resumes. There is just no way to justify putting five SEC teams in the field, but very few national voices (cough cough ESPN) pushed back on that idea.
Tennessee didn’t beat a single FBS team with a winning record this season.

The announcers for the Virginia-Duke game just got finished saying Alabama had been protected because they didn’t want to penalize a team for playing in a conference championship. In the next breath said that BYU would move down due to their loss. Rules for thee, but not for me.
