i dont care about mischaracterisation in fanworks. in truth, no character can truly be correctly characterised unless written/drawn by the creator themself. some people get so hung up on characterisation that they dont even let themselves enjoy the content in front of them.

Joel actually has a theory/headcanon that Grian killed someone and went to live in Japan to get away from it. That would explain why he stayed despite being so miserable. He didn’t have anywhere else to go. That’s just how I remember them explaining it tho, it’s very interesting
