How can we use #GenAI tools more critically, without harming our long-term thinking & learning?. 💡Metacognitive prompts are a promising solution!. By timely nudging users to pause & reflect, these prompts sparked deeper inquiry & exploration in our study with college students 🧵

As AI makes creation faster and more accessible, the process through we which we create new knowledge or artifacts becomes even more important. In our paper, we argue that staying reflective and intentional in human-AI interactions is key to preserving & enriching that process.

One idea that stuck with me from the workshop was the emerging shift toward valuing process over outcomes. For so long, we've prioritized tangible end results, such as grades, promotions, or finished products, because they're easier to measure and compare.

I had the opportunity to present this paper at the Tools for Thought Workshop at #CHI2025. It was a great experience to be part of a community exploring ow AI can both support and challenge our cognitive processes. @KlaraGuan @krntneja @evijitghosh. 🧵.
