When I started working for the FA and delivering Goalkeeping Qualifications in 2007/8 it was a pre requisite that before doing A Licence Goalkeeping you had to do A Licence Outfield ! .This caused much ‘outrage’ amongst Goalkeeping Coaches some already working as Goalkeeping.

The question was, “do you have a philosophy about goalkeeping or a method?” .I had never really thought about it! .But having had 1) time to think about it and 2) working with ‘new’ people in goalkeeping. My answer is most definitely ‘yes’!

Just read that Pepe Reina has decided to retire. A true Premiership Goalkeeping legend and I wish him good luck and best wishes with whatever he does next. I only met him once and that was in the warm up at St James! I had to say hello because Rafa had told me so much about him.

Day 5 (last session) .U21, U19 GK’s.Classic moving a round the goal 3 ball warm up - wide, front post, mid goal.Mix of volley, side foot for dive and half volley.First time shooting - GK roles the ball to coach 18yds away who hits it 1st time. From central and wide. Encourage.
