We can spend ages on brainstorming good (or bad) ideas, but without testing them, they are just concepts without any evidence to prove that they would work. So, the question to ask is not “what’s your idea?” but “how have you tried to test it?”

The language used, the nomenclature, the association with technology, can make innovation the opposite of what it needs to be: it alienates and becomes inaccessible for those who want to be involved but just don’t know how.

We can look at big data not as the new oil but as the new green energy. It can be fully recycled and used for different purposes and to solve different problems.

Developed in a ‘bubble’, many apps for refugees duplicated existing well-used communication platforms. They didn’t take into account complex issues of trust, how information (+ rumors) spread, nor how rapidly the political and protection landscape changed.

Technology can be used to implement innovation, but the technology itself doesn’t produce innovation.

"If social innovation is to “create better outcomes”, “solve complex challenges” and ‘improve community well being,” it must include and nurture the ingenuity, ambition and audacity of people at the grassroots."
