You're going to be as good at this job as the hours you put in. It takes sacrificing some things initially (relationships, money etc.) but let me tell you that the hours you put in to honing your craft are so worth it for the development of your athletes.

I’ve had some time to reflect on my coaching journey. I remember not knowing what I wanted to do with life. I was working at a Dairy Queen in Redding, CA when I got the chance to coach a legion team. I absolutely fell in love with this job at that point.

Tonight a player I have seen grow from an 18 year old kid to a 23 year old man working through his masters program called me to tell me he accepted a job that’ll forever change his life.
Championships and draft picks are awesome, but these are the moments I live for as a coach.

A hero in many ways. My dad, a high school dropout; enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17. Went overseas and was shot during battle. Came back, went back to school and achieved his PhD so that he could help treat veterans with PTSD. Thank you for your service, Marine.
