I’m almost certain you could make a low-budget, straight-to-Channel 5 Christmas movie out of tonight.
You know the drill, a fancy big city media star gets stranded in North Shropshire just a week before Christmas.
Her camera truck probably gets stuck in a field.
Soon realising her life in London is hollow, she falls for the charms of both the Wem farmer and North Shropshire in general and she opens a Christmas gift shop in snowy Market Drayton.
Ahhhhhh.
To show our appreciation for our brilliant NHS workers, our highways team and our contractors are this week painting a special THANK YOU NHS 💙 message on the approach to each of our hospitals. Last night we painted roads near the hospitals in Gobowen and Whitchurch.
@MyDoncaster
@GNev2
Our invitation must have got lost in the post?
We stand firmly with
@SwindonCouncil
on this - don't come crying to us when you're not allowed in next season's Councilbao Cup.
Besides,
@jackieweaver
is from Shropshire. Sure she will back us up.
A handsome young farmer from Wem helps free her and she’s intrigued by his charms…until his tractor accidentally sprays her with mud.
Sadly the truck needs a new wheel or something and she will have to spend Christmas in the county.
We know this isn't about us.
It's about making sure you're all safe and things return to normal as quickly as possible.
But we want to take a minute to say a massive thank you to our crews who are out across the county.
Drop these guys and girls a like and show them your love!
⚠️ If you were planning to vote in the North Shropshire by-election today, but are self-isolating, you have until 5pm to apply for an emergency proxy vote (ie to arrange for someone else to vote for you).

A plea from our friends
@hedgehogsociety
. Before you put your garden waste out please check for hedgehogs. It’s the height of their breeding season so mothers with babies, as well as individual hedgehogs, could easily be gathered up with the waste. Thank you.
🙌 Good morning from our vaccination centre at Shrewsbury Indoor Bowls Centre 🙌
We want you to say a big hello 👋 to Bharti Patel-Smith.
Bharti retired from the NHS in 2017 after 38 years service, but today she's back on the front line as clinical lead.
Thank you Bharti!
VACCINATING HOMELESS PEOPLE IN SHROPSHIRE
👍🏻 Yesterday, saw 27 homeless people receive their vaccinations at the Prince Rupert Hotel in Shrewsbury, which has been set up as a temporary vaccination location.
Really poor engagement with our impromptu Monday night Facebook competition.
Really thought our “like this post by 9pm for a free guided walk up Lord Hill’s column” would be a game changer.
Not a single like! Never mind, back to the drawing board. 👀
🛍️ If every adult in Shropshire spent £3.80 a week in local shops rather than with international retailers online, it would boost the county’s economy by £1million a week! 🎁 If you've spent £3.80 in a local shop this week, please like this post, and tell us where, if you wish.
We are pleased to confirm that every child who is eligible for free school meals in Shropshire will be given vouchers or food packages throughout the Christmas holiday period to ensure nobody goes hungry.
We have also carried out deliveries today 🙏
To show our support for businesses in Shrewsbury town centre affected by this month’s floods, and to encourage people to visit the town, Shrewsbury’s park and ride service will be FREE to use for 2 weeks, from this Saturday (29 Feb) until Saturday 14 March.
Next week we'll be delivering food parcels to vulnerable families across Shropshire to prevent them from going hungry. Over the next few days staff will be working to identify those in need, pack boxes, and put transport and distribution arrangements in place.
Urgent. Any residents who have been displaced due to flooding are invited to come to the Column Restaurant at Shirehall. Council staff will give you a warm welcome and refreshments, and will assess your needs to determine how best the council can help you.
THANK YOU NHS 💙 road markings have now been painted close to the hospitals in Bishop's Castle, Ludlow, Gobowen and Whitchurch to show our appreciation for all of the county's NHS workers. The roads outside Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth hospitals will be painted today and tomorrow.
This morning Eric Smith will present his last-ever
@BBCShropshire
breakfast show, after 26 years in the role, 34 years with the station, and 49 years in radio. All of us at Shropshire Council - staff and councillors - wish Eric a long and happy retirement 🙂
Please, don’t do this. Disposable face masks should be thrown in the bin, not left in the street. Thank you for helping us keep Shropshire clean, tidy and safe.

⚠️ Have you parked in The Gap car park off Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury? Do you know someone who has?
All vehicles need to be moved ASAP as the entry and exit to the car park are now under water.
☀️An extraordinary sun pendant is to go on public display for the first time right here in Shropshire.
The pendant could be one of the most significant pieces of Bronze Age metalwork ever discovered in Britain.
The Shrewsbury Town flag is now flying on the flagpole at Shirehall, and blue and amber banners are hanging from the railings at the top of Lord Hill's Column. Thank you to
@stfcsp
and

for their help.

A giant mound of tangerines go unpeeled.
What are you all doing to pass the time?
❤️ A BIG "thank you" to our waste collection crews who have been out in the extreme heat for the past two days making sure that bins were emptied and recycling collected.
👷 Well done and thank you to all of our bin men, and bin ladies.
❤️The flag outside Shirehall in Shrewsbury is flying at half-mast this week to remember all who have passed away in the past 12 months as result of the pandemic - in Shropshire, and across the country.
❤️Our thoughts are with all of them, and with their families and friends.
⚠️CAR PARKING UPDATE⚠️
Anybody who has their vehicle parked in private residential areas around Chester Street and Coton Hill in Shrewsbury, needs to move them as soon as possible.
Please RT!
‼️ Help save these cars from flooding‼️
These cars are currently on St Julian's Friars car park in
#Shrewsbury
- if they don't get moved, they risk getting very wet.
If you know someone who is parked there, please tell them to move their car NOW.
⚠️ Please, don't do this.
😟 It's unhygienic, unsightly, and takes time and money to clear up.
🚮 Disposable face masks should be put in the bin, not left on the road or pavement.
🙏 Thank you for helping us to keep Shropshire clean and safe.
Many of the businesses on Longden Coleham in Shrewsbury have this afternoon put up their doorway "floodgates" installed with council support under the flood property resilience scheme.
Well that brings our coverage of election night to a close.
Thanks for all your interactions and good humour!

This afternoon (with a little help from some
@stfcsp
and
@shrewsweb
friends) we'll be showing our support for Shrewsbury Town by turning Lord Hill's Column blue and amber, and flying a Shrewsbury Town flag from the flagpole outside Shirehall.
The village of Clive in north Shropshire isn’t named after Robert Clive. We believe it derives from the word Cliffe. The village is marked as Clive on John Rocque’s 1752 map of the county, when Robert Clive was still in the process of assembling his fortune, power and notoriety.
⚠️ Are you the owner of this car - reg no. WR67 CWJ? Do you know the owner?
It's been parked in St Julian's car park in Shrewsbury for several days but needs to be moved asap due to rising river levels.
Part of Shrewsbury town centre is set to be traffic-free during part of the day to make the town safe during coronavirus restrictions. The main plan involves creating a central pedestrian zone for part of the day by diverting inbound traffic up Town Walls.
Shropshire Council have used 1200 tonnes of salt in the last 24 hours to keep the roads clear. We're still out, with teams across the county. We're doing our best, there's a lot of snow! Be safe, lots more snow coming tomorrow and we're doing everything we can to prepare.

Here’s the scene currently at Welsh Bridge. As you can see, the water level is extremely high.
Yet people are STILL attempting to drive through flood water.
Not only is this dangerous but the impact also creates waves which can cause further damage to property.
🎉 And here's the first person vaccinated at Shrewsbury Indoors Bowls Centre 🎉
John Hughes, 72, is a semi-retired farmer from Pontesbury.
He still helps out his sons who are both farmers and he admits to being bowled over to be first one to get his first dose today.
Top man!
Gritting news!
❄️ It's 4am. It's dark outside. And cold. And most people are fast asleep (so won't be reading this 🙂).
👷 But right about now our gritter drivers are heading out to treat rural roads across the county.
👍 Thanks guys!
