if you want to "sell shovels" well, you might start by understanding the work necessary to build *sustainable* data infrastructures — recognizing the human annotators, curators, historians, recordkeepers who have done this work for centuries.

we were trying to download the camera-ready version of our upcoming FAccT paper, on the impacts of AI on voice artists' work — when the overleaf servers suddenly crashed. turns out the NeurIps deadline is tomorrow!! so… i guess thats an impact of AI on *our* work🤪😭💀.

in general i find the practice of hiding data collected / inferred about people both disrespectful of their agency, and so weirdly counterintuitive cos like. people love their own data! see: the annual ritual of sharing (and complaining) about one's spotify wrapped 😝.
The primary purpose of AI memory is to enhance common ground between humans and AI agents acting on their behalf. Invisible memory is not the future, because it removes human control and transparency. So many researchers and industry folks do not understand this.
