Concept aside, this was mostly to study of one of my favorite Golden Age illustrators :) My style tends to be "tight", so I wanted to study Leyendecker's painterly approach! Definitely learned a lot from this one, but the brass staircase/chandelier almost took me out …φ(:3｣∠)_.

Sunday wears this alluring, melancholic expression that conveys his dutiful, heavy-hearted nature; I couldn't help but see his story unspoken in the complex expression of the Arrow Collar Man.

I was inspired by the Arrow Collar Man's aloof, disinterested expression, which paralleled Sunday's distant expression in one of his very first appearances, where he sits next to Robin in a car :,).

I've been wanting to repaint a Leyendecker for the longest time; I figured Sunday and Robin were the perfect subjects for this pastiche! While the original Leyendecker was titled "Couple Descending Staircase", my take instead features two siblings.
