White people's vocal register, their accents (with SOME exceptions), are treated as normal, or as "regular" english. Black people have had to justify our speech (broadly construed) for decades. That Harris can do this on national TV says something but not what you think.

Let me personalize this for a minute, how I deliver a talk to an audience of Black philosophers is different in this way from how I deliver it to an audience of mixed company. This only sounds weird because white people, with SOME exceptions, don't have to do this.

This isn't that much of a change in accent, really. At most she replaces "going" with "gon" slips a little further into AAVE, which is something almost every Black professional does depending on their audience.
It’s pretty weird to change your accent on the fly depending on which audience you’re speaking to.
