Important new paper on the law respecting homeless folks’ belongings. Municipalities generally take and discard these belongings without a second thought.

Finland reduced homeless by 30% in 3 years by converting shelters and transitional programs to permanent housing. Scotland is following suit. Canada must do the same.

Evicting #encampments doesn't suddenly make people housed; it just means time, money, and resources are wasted to commit atrocious harm and violate people's rights, all while forcing them into less visible and more dangerous spaces outdoors.

Important debate in Hamilton next week. Council will vote on a new anti-renoviction bylaw. Bylaw is impressive & will be huge step to stop unjust evictions. Could be a model for other cities. Kudos to ⁦@AcornHamilton⁩ for their advocacy & leadership https://t.co/g2bHoymSHs

The graph in this post says it all. #OntarioWorks rates need to be increased - at least doubled. The rules on income clawbacks need to be changed as well. We cannot continue with social assistance policies that trap people who have fallen on hard times into unending poverty.

A single person on social assistance (Ontario Works) gets $733 a month or $8,796 a year, frozen since October 2018. Meanwhile the cost of food alone went like that. https://t.co/kL5TNezbv0
