of this intensity is very unusual in Indonesia as the country straddles the equator, where wind shear is typically low. Also, Rancaekek is located 7° south of the equator & the tornado appears to be rotating counter-clockwise, so this would be an anti-cyclonic tornado

Wanted to share this incredible video from Clydesdale Farms south of Livingston, TN on Friday 5/28. This QLCS

occurred with a VROT of just 7 knots at radar beam height of 5,200 feet, aka unwarnable. Thankfully the people in the barn only had very minor injuries!

Although storm surveys are still ongoing & ratings aren’t final, we’ve found 5

so far from Dec 9th - 4 EF2s & 1 EF3. As of now this is the most strong (EF2+) tornadoes from 1 outbreak in Middle TN since 11/15/05 (5) - more than 12/11/21 (4), 3/3/20 (4) & 12/23/15 (4)

I've seen several so-called meteorologists and weather enthusiasts call yesterday's severe weather event a 'bust', 'overhyped' or 'overforecast'. ~1200 wind damage and large hail reports (and counting!) is none of those, and for August is close to historic levels

We NWS meteorologists work rotating shifts (days, evenings, overnights), and a regular sleep schedule is hard to maintain. So, I took a sleeping pill yesterday to get back on track and ended up sleeping 20 hours. Now I have no idea what planet I’m on

Up until just 8 years ago, December was the LEAST likely month for

in Middle Tennessee, with only 9 on record from 1800-2014. Since December 2015, however, there has been nearly 4 times that number with 35 tornadoes - so December is now the 7th MOST likely month

I think the biggest takeaways from the

outbreak yesterday into today from a forecast perspective are that the GFS can actually sometimes be right, the ECMWF can actually be wrong, and the NAM stands for “Not A Model” you should use

Today is a great case study on how a seemingly favorable large scale

Wow, just unreal damage in Putnam County. The ‘wind rowing’ pattern of the damage - where debris is blown into highly convergent lines like in this picture - typically only occurs with the most violent tornadoes
