Academic freedom is supposed to protect scholars pursuing knowledge for the benefit of humanity. Yet, right now in the UK, many educators are struggling with the hypocrisy of telling students to think creatively while self-censoring due to the risk of losing their livelihoods.🤐

Prof @hakimadi1 was one of the handful of Black academics who encouraged me to pursue a doctorate over 10 years ago - its some what terrifying that @chiuni are trying to erase his contributions &the generation of Black scholars we know a programme like his would inevitably create
📣 The 'MRes History of Africa & the African Diaspora' @chiuni led by the acclaimed Professor @hakimadi1 is at risk. 📝 Consider adding your signature to the petition. Help the campaign to retain this invaluable knowledge production pipeline. https://t.co/E9o4PJnPg3 via @UKChange

Enslaved Africans carried the knowledge of indigo cultivation to The Americas, developing production first in Barbados and Jamaica in the 1600s and later in South Carolina in the 1740s. Each of the colonies depended on Africans to develop and process the crop.

Fantastic news congratulations Yolanda! Continue to shine that amazing light of yours ✨👊🏾🎶🎵
Really honoured to receive an OBE for services to music, music education & broadcasting. My career continues to be eclectic & doesn’t fit in a box, so I’m grateful to everyone that continues to walk with me as a musician, broadcaster or campaigning for children & access to music

We’re so delighted for Vanley Burke winner of a 2022 @phf_uk award. Burke is currently working on a sound commission with A&H and Museum X with @shakes_sandra for 2023.
@pbredmongrel @brichaimbeul @SarathyKorwar @Orphyvibes The first visual arts award goes to Vanley Burke. His photographs capture the experiences of African Caribbean people in the UK, representing members of the Black community back to themselves in an intimate portrayal.
