5⃣ "Syphilis is a thing of the past". Whilst syphilis is significantly less common and more treatable now than in the pre-penicillin era, it certainly hasn't been eradicated. #WSHD2024

4⃣ "No symptoms = no STI". Sometimes, an STI may be asymptomatic, meaning the individual may not display symptoms, but may still be able to pass the infection on to others. #WSHD2024

3⃣ "STIs don't cause infertility". If left untreated, some STIs may lead to the development of pelvic inflammatory disease, which has been associated with infertility. #WSHD2024

2⃣ "All STIs can be cured." Many STIs can be successfully treated thanks to the development of antibiotics; however, some have no cure but can be effectively managed with medication. #WSHD2024

1⃣ "You can't transmit an STI via oral sex" . Not true! Whilst relatively uncommon, many STIs can be transmitted orally. #WSHD2024
