I got a TT job (not my current one) bc I randomly sat beside the right person, then a stranger, in the audience for an MLA panel. A lot else went right too, but if I hadn’t sat there, I wouldn’t have gotten the job. Wish it weren’t so chancy, but that’s not just academia!.

Final thought re: last week’s @CriticalInquiry forum on AI/intention. I’ve been teaching “Against Theory” every other semester for years, and getting to write about it really underscored that teaching a text is the best way to learn how it works.
