john donne tells us to “go and catch a falling star”
“alabama’” rhymes with “hammer” and “drama” the way ella fitzgerald & louis armstrong sing it

what are stars but asterisks to point a human life? “last night another big one fell
a glistening armadillo left the scene
head down, tail down” 1. and 2. eliz. bishop, “the armadillo,” 1965. 3. paul klee, “dieser stern lehrt beugen” / “this star teaches bending,” 1940.

personally i prefer “god steers” over “god guides” 1. because i am a taurus. (and i know bull ≠ steer, but taurus in german is “stier”) 2. because a steer has horns but a donkey doesn’t 3. because it’s called a “steering wheel” and not a “guiding wheel”

for me, to think of “lampblack” is to think of a beautiful & kinda strange fragrance by fzotic but also to think of writing “in the dark” in general (cf. india ink) see lewis carroll’s square substitution cipher for night-writing, done with something he called a “nyctograph”

cummings’s festering snow cf. williams’s “encrusted” plum tree
there is something in the liquid-to-solid state change that is purulent and disgusting

a stanza from “della primavera trasportata [sic] al morale,” william carlos williams, pub. 1951. love the idea that the plum blossoms have oozed out of the tree like syrup and then crystallized. before they are plums proper they are sugar plums (or old jam?)

this poem has such a palpable (and specifically cold) transposition of ee cummings to me
from ee cummings on the (not absolutely) small hands of the rain to o’hara writing of snow festering on eyelashes “as if they were hands”

i know everyone on this site says “i think about this all the time” as an indicator of like, interest and not as a literal index but i absolutely, positively will never get this (minor) line from kissing jessica stein out of my head
