Megaphone diplomacy on social media, in English, by Oxford-educated men in suits. A genre that could only be dated to a short window of the early 21st century.

Nobody should have to put up with this idiocy. It isn’t ‘free speech’ to smash things up, generate litter and block roads. It’s just antisocial behaviour.

This kind of bonkers paranoid hyperbole has become common on social media and discredits the cause of improving things for Palestinians. Its proponents have no self-awareness.
The UK government wants the hunger strikers to die. This protracted and performative state-sanctioned murder is necessary to create the required climate of fear through the sheer brutality of public killings

I was two years old when the Leeds Supertram Act was passed, and I think there's a not insubstantial chance that I'll die before actually seeing modern mass transit in West Yorkshire

There is no reason that needs to take another decade, if the political will were there to fund the work.

The previous proposals were found not to be integrated with the existing public transport network, not to improve traffic congestion, and to generate a modelled increase in accidents. It will be important to learn the lessons and design a system that will improve transit.

Last time, the inquiry found that lower-cost alternative technologies and different routes had not been examined properly at an early stage, which could have achieved better outcomes quicker at lower cost.

It will be important not to repeat of what (simplifying) happened last time, which was to retrofit a business case to a preconceived scheme, rather than iteratively testing alternative mass transit design options to get good value for money. https://t.co/HVkUymSQFR

THE long-planned tram system between Bradford and Leeds will not start running until the late 2030s – it has been revealed.

It is 20 years since cancellation of the “supertram”, 11 years since the flawed trolleybus scheme was refused consent, and now any Leeds tram won’t happen for more than another decade.
And there it is. Embargo is finished. Yorkshire Post press publish first. But I have my suspicions there's quite a lot more to this story than what they're reporting. https://t.co/MOcYqoCT9c

This deserves wide circulation! #JuryTrial
A few days ago, David Lammy wrote a letter to the Justice Committee answering some questions about his proposals to restrict jury trial. This is a welcome step. It’s a telling letter. But not for the reasons you might think. 🪡 🧵

It is really sad that this has been judged necessary. Society has to do more to identify extremists and catch them before they can cause mayhem.

It’s fashionable to talk about “place-making”, and this is a good candidate for it. Another is Southampton Central railway station, which is surrounded by derelict warehouses (including an abandoned Toys R Us empty for nearly 8 years) and ugly concrete buildings.
Oxford Railway Station should be an iconic example of British Gothic, a combination of Hogwarts, St Pancras and Lincoln Cathedral. It should be the most pictured place on Chinese social media, a place where people from far off lands come to propose
