Marx himself said he wanted to completely rework vol III sometime in the 70's but never got around to it. Vol I is inarguably the best and most mature of Marx's works, and represents his thoughts better than any other.

a mistake I see a lot of people make is assuming Vol III is Marx's most mature writings. Vol II had a decent manuscript but vol III was basically assembled out of some notes and drafts from the mid 60's. Vol I was still being actively reworked right up until Marx died.
