Back in 2019, my friend and I got together to watch the NFL Draft. We decided to make it a little more interesting by creating a prediction game around it. We played each draft since then. It was fun but it was built with a clunky spreadsheet so we always thought "There should

The inefficiencies of WordPress have been around for years, long before gen AI exploded in popularity. A developer making a change in a shared resource was always more efficient than sloghing through the same change in WP admin UI. Gen AI just exacerbates the issue.
Cursor published a post last week arguing the cost of CMS abstractions is now higher than the cost of just editing code with agents. I ran the same experiment on our website and cut WordPress, shipped the marketing site and resources as raw code. The site is now static

One of my eye opening life moments was when I sat on an HOA board discussing a special assessment. Resident complained "They won't pay for it?" referring to the HOA. Board chair responded "They is us". Resident sat down quietly like they were just told Santa doesn't exist.

My son's HS banned phones. The algebra teacher requires use of a phone to submit homework assignments. Make it make sense.
Today on the blog: the evidence in favor of phone bans in the classroom really is overwhelming β and so is the evidence for banning laptops. https://t.co/KtY1WhfVoN

I like big back(ends) and I cannot lie...
@hanebox only some of the biggest backends in the world. but obviously prior to workflow / queues it was just the api part, now it can be the entire thing

Remember when we used to fight over TypeScript vs. vanilla JS? That was time well spent.

You now know that @cursor_ai is legit because they hired @leerob.
I'm joining Cursor to teach the future of coding! There are millions of developers learning how to use AI and they need pragmatic advice: 1. We need to teach new developers strong foundations, so they know what to learn, and how to solve issues when debugging. 2. We need to

AI tools often behave as well as junior developers. So it's not surprising that shoving AI down the throats of teams is having the same effect you'd get if you unleashed a swarm of junior developers on your codebase. https://t.co/CLnse9W1h2

Under pressure to embrace AI, developers are growing frustrated by misguided mandates and are left to clean up any collateral damage inflicted on their codebase.

I believe the lesson from @fauna shutting down is that you can't build a business on a unique tech idea alone. You still need to invest in your team so they can serve customers well. They seemed to cut corners in every way possible and that just isn't a recipe for success.

As it happens, LLMs also suck at timezone offset skew.

The simple/sophisticated principle of @nextjs is what makes it great and allows you to use the same framework for all of your projects, not just some of them. This has always been the draw for me to use nextjs and is the reason I adopted it at version 4.

Man, I really wanted to like @prisma Postgres but within the first week of using it I need to follow a 27 step process to upgrade to GA. Don't punish your early adopters.

Ahhhh that old feeling when you can't figure out why your bug fix didn't work only to find that you've strayed off of localhost and into production. Good times.

The cure for screen addiction is meaningful activity. Kids with nothing to do and retired adults are the most likely addicts because they are the most likely to be idle and bored.

How about instead of a massive TV in hotels they just add a rack where I can hang up wet bathing suits.

Don't overcomplicate it. I use Perplexity and other AI tools because the old search model spawned a broken internet where site managers were incentivized to keep you on the page longer and maximize the number of ads you see. Give people what they want without the mess.
