We're no strangers to fossil fuel execs overseeing climate research. The Chair of the @Scripps_Ocean Director's Council is a retired Fossil Fuel exec - the council is stacked with three more. Why? Shouldn't we expect better from the institution that manages the @Keeling_curve?.

A less well known operation by SIO included a nuclear test just 500 miles offshore of San Diego, called Operation Wigwam. SIO helped choose the site.

Many of us have fond memories of Walter Munk. His storied career and foundational research, his parties, his role in building SIO. His dying wish was for his home to be kept as an event space, as he used it during his life. Instead, they sold it.

Walter Munk famously assisted with the Bikini Atoll tests, which saw the US irradiate and forcibly displace nearly 200 Indigenous Bikinians, who struggled for decades for any compensation for the loss of their lands.
