7/ 🚨 As NL plans to repeal the tax, we urge a rethink. Our findings show the policy works—let’s fix it, not scrap it.

6/ 🔁 With stronger design—higher rate, broader scope, clear signage—the SSB tax could deliver bigger health wins. 📣 And it could serve as a model for the rest of 🇨🇦

5/ But here’s the catch: 📉 Tax rate too low for WHO targets ❌ Some sugary drinks (like chocolate milk, 100% juice) were excluded 🛒 Most retailers didn’t show the tax at point-of-decision

4/ 🧾 Despite visibility challenges, the tax worked: ✅ Shifted behaviour ✅ Generated $35.5 million ✅ Revenues were promised for school food, prenatal nutrition, & health programs

Reversing the only revenue based public health policy in NL will not make healthy foods more affordable for NL-ers. We have the worst health status and outcomes in the country and most are diet and lifestyle related! https://t.co/jtibFiz37m #MoreMoments #nlpoli

I really don’t understand where some of the numbers came from in this report? We are busting at the seams for research space in our department. We also have maximum use of teaching lab space and would need more lab instructors to offer more lab slots or new lab courses. #nlpoli
