Scots are no more left or right wing than England. The difference between us. Scotland has PR and a multi-party system. The UK has FPTP and hitherto a three party system, with a united right and split left. The latter party system is coming to an end.

Oh there it is!! The #InevitableDemographics have been thoroughly debunked. If Independence was inevitable you would see the general rise since the indyref going up in a parallel effect as those that were young get older and increase the pro-indy numbers. Just not happening.

Here's the identity effect in full. Those that feel Scottish not British identify 74% (up 30% from 1999) for independence. It just shows you this isn't about democracy, policy or being better off, it's just soil nationalism.

The driven question (which has long favoured independence) shows independence falling back to 46%. This debunks the inevitable demographics.

There it is. Nationalism is now primarily driven by identity. Also ScotNats are likely to be left wing. Hence their view that all Scots are left wing, it’s showing an echo chamber effect.

Just on the new results from the social attitudes survey. The Scots only crew are 1/3rd of Scots as they’ve basically always been for 25 years . No not so inevitable is it.

Facile stuff from Alyn Smith. Just plain false that Scotland has the highest electricity prices in the UK. And renewables are a good thing, but they are nothing like a lottery win.

“Scotland has won the energy lottery, we have got every renewable energy in spades” The SNP’s @AlynSmith says it “beggars belief” that Scotland has the “highest electricity prices” in the UK, and says achieving net zero is “existential” #bbcdn

The poverty of ideas on display by the SNP is starkly illustrated here. Tim Rideout is many thinks but he is not remotely an economist, nor does he understand the Scottish economy or currency challenges. Yet this is the source of their belief in their currency plan.

Today’s paper is mostly a rehash, but there is a subtle shift on currency. The idea that conversion of sterling deposits would furnish the central bank with reserves is new, and is pure Tim Rideout. But it’s also pure nonsense. At his conference last year… (Part 1/3 of video)

"But given it is Scottish Government policy to move to our own Scottish pound as soon as practicable, it could coincide with the likely time of entry to the EU." The SNPG are proposing Sterlingisation for over two years. It's Boltzmann's Mirage; impossible in practice!

OK Twittetsphere.. can anyone help. Chapter 17 certainly heavily implies you need your own currency. So this is a HUGE statement by the Scottish Government that there is no currency requirement in the EU accession Treaties. Anyone see how they get this through?

Swinney’s speech on the independence paper, including Q&A with broadcast journalists, done and dusted in 20 minutes. Almost as if he’s embarrassed by the paucity of this stuff.

A huge part of the entire case in this paper rests on immigration. However at NO POINT does the paper say that they want to increase immigration. There are lots of warm words about it, lots of implications etc. But they have been VERY careful to avoid saying they want it up.
