The Rosslare to Fishguard passenger ferry, The St Patrick, was bombed by the Luftwaffe on 13-6-1941. 30 people died including 17 year old John Joe Brennan from Wexford. Tragically Brennan’s father Mosie was killed the previous year when the St Patrick was strafed by a German plane

This time-lapse video by Max Olson shows what a 4.5 meter (15 feet) storm surge looks like. The video was recorded in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida during hurricane Ian landfall [full video, HD, Max Olson Chasing: https://t.co/gObjp3BBxF] https://t.co/0PW90SKC7Z

An interesting mix of heritage and maritime infrastructure at #Wexford Quay that I spotted. All the bollards along the Quay that the fishing vessels use have brass plates with the names of old sailing vessels that once graced the town. 57 bollards I was told. A lovely touch

@PassageCarFerry just turned 40 set up in the summer of 82, the service runs from Ballyhack to Passage East connecting both counties, considered one of Ireland's most established domestic ferry' 👏 *Cool Fact; There had been a pedestrian ferry on the route since medieval times.

Feb 1940, the British SS Langleeford (34 crew) was torpedoed by a German U-Boat. After almost 3 days fighting against wind & tides, rain & hail 15 men landed near Loop Head🇮🇪. Famished & half frozen they quickly recovered after hot drinks, blazing fires, tea & other refreshments.

In July 1940 when St George's Channel was mined, they were allowed to come within 7 miles of the Co Waterford coast & British shipping was also allowed the use of Irish waters. Untethered British Barrage balloons some with explosives regularly flew over Éire 🇮🇪 & were shot down.

In WW2 all Irish food exports (3M+ tons Beef & 4M+ cattle) went to the UK in Irish Registered ships, which also supplied the UK with millions more tons of food from Spain Portugal & the US, shipped through Portugal by heroic Irish Seamen, of whom 149 died. https://t.co/Z2lVHRHYcu
