you need to be abyss-maxing, stare right into the dark (ur metrics) and ask yourself if your product is anywhere close to be deserving of investments in growth. a handful of casual users is never gonna turn into thousands or millions of hardcore adopters.

so much noise on xitter -- contrary to popular belief there is huge demand for great EMs. maybe even more so now that vibe coding is demanding larger teams, more thoughtful approaches to architecture and ensuring quality software.

man engineers who can’t/won’t write complete sentences in their comms are gonna get usurped by pleasant and eloquent agents so hard.

Founders, that part time engineer working for you as a second job for an extra 5-10k a month is not in love with your mission. They just want extra income on top of their likely illiquid day job. Don’t expect that person to convert to full-time after your next fundraise.

Affairs are weird to me cause I can’t keep a secret from my wife for more than about 3 minutes. Maybe a couple of hours if her phone is on do not disturb.

Just when I thought I couldn’t bear to type another line with these weary hands, blurry eyes, and a crooked back from the years in the startup Sinai, G-d brought us vibe coding.

Notion works brilliantly for companies that live through their writing. For everyone else, it becomes a perverse repository of broken mirrors, unmade beds, and dirty kitchens. Most orgs need the ruthless natural selection of Google Drive.

if you hire too many yes men, they will lead you down a path of ruin by your own nearsightedness. if you hire too many debaters, you'll get nothing done. the sweet spot is somewhere in the middle and why "disagree and commit" is such a powerful adage for high performing teams.

If we had LLMs in 1590 they would have confidently claimed earth was the center of the solar system every time. The great averager.

My wife singing an aria made a conductor cry today. when I make my stakeholders cry, I don’t think it’s for the same reason.

the main issue here is not whether the work gets done, it is the violation of the contract. you hire someone full-time to join your culture, to grow with the org and take a long-term view, not to have them farm the work out to contractors. if you don't get that, good luck.

PSA: there’s a guy named Soham Parekh (in India) who works at 3-4 startups at the same time. He’s been preying on YC companies and more. Beware. I fired this guy in his first week and told him to stop lying / scamming people. He hasn’t stopped a year later. No more excuses.

It will be a funny sight in 25 years when we see those Tesla humanoid robots walking cute dogs around Manhattan while their owners are at the office.

every single day for the last three years my entire Apple ecosystem reminds me it is time for bed at 10pm and I completely ignore it.
