The Drake Inquiry hammered NSW greyhound racing on welfare particularly around rehoming and track safety. In response, GRNSW has launched an “Industry Future Blueprint” which will only mean more deaths:

The Tasmanian Premier has announced that greyhound racing will be phased out by 30 Jun 29. He said he's concerned about the future of the industry and continues to be concerned about animal welfare. He also recognised the strong advocacy from across the community. And so do we ❤️

Thank you to everyone who reacted so strongly to the story of Irinka Lindsay. We've heard from GWIC that the matter is under investigation & Irinka is scratched from tonight's race. The original post urging this poor dog to “Run your heart out, Lindsay” has been removed.

An experienced vet says: “High Grade means the cancer has probably spread and there is a poorer prognosis, often only months. If it’s high grade he is not a well dog and shouldn’t be racing. The focus should be concentrating on surgery and chemo to cure him, not racing him!”.

Irinka Lindsay ran at The Gardens NSW on 1 August 2025. He has raced 22 times. On 29 March 2025, he fell in his race. On 16 April he finished a “distant last”, and was found to have an “upper respiratory abnormality”, with 14 days stand-down. He then raced on 5 July.

According to an industry supporter, two-year-old greyhound Irinka Lindsay has “a high-grade mast cell tumour, meaning his time with us will be tragically short.”.We're asking the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (emailus@gwic.nsw.gov) why they're allowing this to happen.

Sportsbet put no value on Miara - she was just a disposable gambling product who will easily be replaced by other poor greyhounds. This is not part of the "contract" between dogs and humans. Check out the ABC's What the Duck?! And keep fighting for the greys, they depend on us.

Miara is the 55th greyhound killed while racing on Australia's tracks in 2025. Dozens more have been killed off-track due to their racing injuries. Miara died under the Sportsbet banner.

The ABC is running a podcast series on the incredible history of the human-canine partnership. Miara is no longer part of that history. In her very first race, she suffered a spinal injury and was killed by the on-track vet at Shepparton, 16 June.

John Shakespeare who sadly died this week was a Walkley Award-winning cartoonist, caricaturist and illustrator. He and SMH columnist @Peter_Fitz, also a wonderful friend to the greyhounds, used their creative skills to highlight the horror of racing. And the wonder of greyhounds.

After the deaths and injuries of thousands of dogs, racing is being kicked out of the Dapto Showground. This is a major blow to an industry that licensed the brand "Dapto Dogs". The community has rejected greyhound racing in Dapto. The tide has turned.
