Scientists are sending cannabis seeds to space... but it's not a gimmick, or a quest for an otherworldly high... For @WIRED I speak to the team behind the Martian Grow project to find out why they think cannabis could be a celestial super crop. https://t.co/1UPPKgAMtO

The versatile cannabis plant could, some scientists think, one day be useful for lunar and Martian colonists. For now, researchers will subject its seeds to radiation in orbit and see what happens.

"Germany has the chance to lead—but only if legislators follow the facts, not the fear.” Decriminalization "is working," but cannabis clubs are hard to roll out & a new goverment puts the legal-sales phase in doubt, German experts tell @sarahlsinclair_: https://t.co/Ca70Hlu2Kj

Incredibly grateful to everyone at @LongCovidKids and @long_covid for helping bring this piece together, and to the many families who reached out to share their stories. And big thanks to @ed_walker86 @theleaduk for the commission!

Meanwhile, FOIs reveal long covid clinic closures across the UK. At the height of the pandemic, there were over 120 Long Covid services. As of January 2025, 46 confirmed they will remain open, with only eight of 13 specialist paediatric hubs continuing to operate.

Families say the impact has been "life-changing" but a lack of awareness about Long Covid and related conditions has resulted in gaslighting from healthcare professionals, threats of legal action from schools, and judgment and disbelief among family and friends.

This might be one of the most important stories I've covered recently. Thousands of children in the UK living with life-changing impacts after Covid have been left without access to appropriate healthcare. But their families say no one wants to know.
Three-and-a-half years ago, Talvin was one of the top in his Maths class, he played chess and wanted to be a professional cricketer. Now 11, he should be preparing for secondary school, but some days he can’t even get out of bed.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Dalgety's UK medical cannabis cultivation facility. My full report, as well as a deep dive into the UK industry— and the growing economic argument for regulation of non-medical adult use— is up now on Forbes. https://t.co/19qIbRpuxB

As someone who also edited a cannabis magazine for several years @veverka_robert's story felt very close to home. I'm grateful to him for speaking to me at length about his experience for @Filtermag_org and to @godfreywill for the commission and recognising its importance.
Robert Veverka ran a cannabis/harm reduction magazine. Convicted in 2021 in a case of "gross censorship," he's still fighting for justice, he tells @sarahlsinclair_. "Prohibition is the real crime. That’s my power, the force which helps me to go on." https://t.co/Gq1O2mUR08

4/ Thanks to @Hannah_Deacon40 Prof Mike Barnes @Matt_Hughes79 @alicesalisburyj & @MedCanProject whose research is also cited. But mostly to Jessica and Simon and the other parents who shared their experiences anonymously. I couldn't do my job without people like them. 💜

3/ Prof Bob Phillips also estimates up to a third of children receiving palliative care for cancer and other terminal conditions are also using cannabis-based products (based on surveys conducted through NHS and end-of-life services in 2019-2020).

1/ After almost five years reporting on the failings of medical cannabis policy in the UK, it felt like a significant milestone to get a commission from @Telegraph this week, especially for such an important story.

For @StylistMagazine I had the opportunity to try @MYndspan to find out how healthy my brain is (pleased to report I'm only 26 according to my 'functional' brain age 🤯) and there's some v interesting science behind it Thank you @MirandaLarbi for the fascinating commission!

UK medical cannabis in numbers: - 6 years legal - 5 NHS prescriptions - 300,000+ private prescriptions (21-23) - 50 children prescribed privately - Costing £2k+ per month - 35,000 children with uncontrolled seizures - 0 of these children have benefited from the law change

The law changed 6 yrs ago today to help patients like Alfie access medical cannabis on prescription. To date only 3 prescriptions have been issued to children via @NHSuk. This is shameful. The policy introduced by the previous Government has failed to help patients.@wesstreeting
