Hey, world, this war is not about Ukraine. It's about all of you. Let me – as a tech editor at Forbes Ukraine – explain it to you in the most direct way, by naming products and technologies with Ukrainian roots.
Also asking for RT
How digital is Ukraine? The delivery app in Kyiv managed to sync with air raids systems. When an alert is on, all orders are halted and people automatically get their money back.
> Look like a Nordic god
> Grandfather killed commies in Finland
> Went on to defend a country against unjust invasion
> Became a legendary commander
> Coordinated the most suicidal and insane defense in this century, Mariupol
> Fighting till you trapped on a factory surrounded…
And let's not forget the elephant in the room. You all are checking you writing via
@Grammarly
. It's $13 bln company by now, and it was founded by three Ukrainians. Its largest dev office is still here, in Kyiv.
This is Senator Obama in Ukraine, year 2005.
He's overviewing destroyed conventional weapons at a destruction plant in Donetsk.
Ukraine nerfed all of its military capabilities on the premise it will be protected by the world's powers. Sad.
Ukraine once had a very successful counteroffensive.
Liberating several cities — including Mariupol and Bakhmut — in a matter of ONE MONTH.
It was in 2014.
And it was forcibly stalled by RuAF involvement, EU diplomatic efforts and complete US ignorance.
Now we are here.

? Well, the masking technology was brought by Looksery team, mostly stationed in Odessa and led by bright mind of Yuri Monastyrshin. Snap also have a huge office in Kyiv and Zaporizha.
When Russia occupied Crimea, we also didn't believe it will go unpunished.
Then Google started marking it as Russian territory.
Siemens sold its turbines there.
ExxonMobil & Stetter & HAMM, CAT and JCB helped to build Crimean bridge.
Justice is just a word.
Crypto. There is A LOT to uncover, but to name just a few –

Love Ring cameras from Amazon? Most of the hardware and software was born in Kyiv by the company of almost 1000 people, even though Amazon for a long time denies its connections to local contractors.
It's very cool that Houthis get the treatment of aircraft carriers and hundreds of planes + thousands of troops from 10 countries.
Ukraine got “wish you luck” in its battle for the Black Sea.
BREAKING:
The US military has announced a 10-nation coalition against Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea.
Only one Arab country, Bahrain, is part of the coalition.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE rejected the US proposal to join.
But let's move on. If you are working in a Fortune-500 business, there is a chance you sales team use software. Well, this unicorn is broght to you by Dnipro-born entrepreneur Oleg Roginskiy.
On some days I just can't stop thinking that this whole misery and inhumane tragedy happened because of… nothing.
Nothing was threatening Russia in 2008, 2014 or 2022.
There are literally 0 countries which are ready to attack it.
Perfectly safe. And totally crazy.
Ukrainians mourned deaths at Beslan, the sinking of Kursk, many other terror attacks and catastrophes in Russia. When the large mall fire happened in 2018, people brought flowers to the Russian embassy.
If you see some other reaction today, think a little bit why.
So, Navalnaya's messages to European Parliament:
1) Don't work with Ukraine, it's not effective to fight Putin this way
2) Work with US instead and give US money
3) There are "tens of millions of Russians" against war and so sanctions should be lifted
A new experience for me. Two Russian-speaking ladies openly talking about how Russia should have cut Ukraine from the Black Sea, in the bookshop in Tallinn. Answering “Mind your own business” to a proposal to discuss war crimes at least not so loudly and somewhere else.
A part of Ukraine’s lacklustrer econ performance is:
- 100s of years in the core 🇷🇺 Empire
- Riots, ethnic and cultural cleansing
- WWI
- Early soviet massacres
- Holodomor
- WWII
- Communism for 70 years
- Depopulation during 90s
- War since 2014
Surely we are just “corrupt”
Since I got literal death threats for saying Navalnaya does not give a single fuck about Ukraine (and to be honest about Russia too), here’s her post at the moment of Ukraine aid passing.
No mention of this monumental act.
You tell me how Ukrainians are wrong about her.
The weirdest part about this war for future historians will be the moment when Russians said to Americans they strictly prohibit the delivery of modern jets and long-range rockets to Ukraine, and Americans, for some reason, agreed. Because there couldn’t be a better explanation
Estonia is just… something. One hour by bus from my apartment, €2,5, and you are in the midst of amazing, tenderly protected nature. Breathing the cleanest air and overseeing a beautiful bog.
US totally abstained.
A few billions spent at the time could have saved all the current aid and tens of thousands of lives.
But Obama was too smart and too Nobel Peace Prize Winner for this.
And Merkel too happy to shake Putin’s hand a few more times.
This a picture from November, 2014.
US President simply ignored the annexation and went on to appease Putin in Syria too, happily chatting with him on every occasion.
Obama was a total moral bankrupt.
Crimea is Ukraine. Russia violated Ukraine’s sovereignty nearly 10 years ago when it seized Crimea just as it continues to violate Ukraine’s territorial integrity today. We welcome the 2nd Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform to bring global attention to Russia’s crimes.
It’s kinda incredible that Germany and Japan got better post-WWII deals from the US, as its former enemies, then Ukraine will for 1) beings its ally 2) surrendering its nuclear arsenal 3) risking zero American lives.
January 1 marked six months that I have lived in Estonia 🇪🇪
So here’s the ultimate thread of the things I learned.
Something beyond “startups per capita”, “everything is digital”. More little things that matter to me.
Dig in if you are interested in this magnificent country.
Russian passport holders in Estonia have access to high-quality media in Russian language, no political pressure, enjoy superior standards of living and… guess who they will be voting for?
Putin has no formal control over them, yet they voluntary side with him.
This is probably the most important link for my foreign readers. Yes, the narrative of «evil establishment, good (neutral) Russian people» is much more comfortable. But it’s not true. MOST OF THEM want blood
I cracked the code, and it was obvious.
@stats_feed
is run by Russian, as simply as that.
Let that think in, or as one modern philosopher says…
Interesting… Looking into it…
When it’s a bad-performing metric, mention Ukraine.
When it’s a good one (actually one of the few democratically elected and overwhelmingly popular leaders) conveniently ignore Ukraine.
A reminder. Just a few years ago, Navalny decided it's a good idea to legitimize and run “debates” with Strelkov, who is responsible for the death of hundreds of EU citizens. At the time he also recognized the so-called DPR/LPR.
And now EU supports him. Good choice
The fact that Russians can easily launch a videogame stuffed with propaganda and list it on Microsoft, Steam and Nintendo shops amidst war against sovereign nation is the ultimate showcase of how mild the sanctions are.
The more I learn about this man, the more I think that every Ukrainian politician and leader should thoroughly study his biography and political legacy.
A short 🧵 of my fav quotes of Lennart Meri, the first president of Estonia after the regaining of independency:
I hope you never experience the kind of disgust Ukrainians feel when they watch those videos from Maruipol where Russians are praising themselfs for the new homes, stores or school. Built on the graves. It's all over TikTok.
What I really don't understand is what kind of allure Russia has for foreigners? What drives them to defend or at least go soft on its war crimes and imperial ambition?
Is it history, culture, leadership or desire to see some brutality?
The Ukrainian Ambassador to Sweden demands an apology from Swedish State Television after its journalist
@ElafAli__
made a joke on air about Ukrainian women arriving in Sweden as refugees
“They’re blond & blue-eyed so you don’t notice their presence, apart from in the brothels”
Sometimes I just think about what kind of spell is on Ukraine. In the last century:
Soviet Revolution
Holodomor (7M+ victims)
Mass deportations
Millions dead in WW2
Chernobyl
Unreal economic & demographic collapse in the '90s
War in 2014
Full-scale invasion in 2022
When Putin will die, half of the European leaders will say things similar to what they are now saying about Gorbachev — he was a complicated man, led his country through difficult times, has a unique legacy, and bla-bla-bla.
This time it’s different?
Less than 9% of foreign companies left Russia.
Shelves are full of foreign products.
Russian economy’s projected to grow this year.
Ukraine is strictly cut off from acquiring Western planes and rockets.
It’s bad.
These people are nuts. You are living in a county plundered for decades by your occupying descendants, enjoying its freedom and prosperity, yet still rooting for the most backwards, cruel empire. Discussing how to better kill and starve innocent people.
What really makes me sad is that once war ends, Russia will only grow richer.
Sanctions lifted, frozen funds returned, official trade restarted, investments. It suffered close to zero destruction as well.
And Ukraine will be left with big promises and zero opportunities.
Christo Grozev was constantly pushing messages from his “Wagner pal” when they were killing people in Ukraine but provided ZERO original insights when shit got real in Russia. That deserves another Oscar.
@HuwSayer
And then he never visited Ukraine, blocked weapons, as well as said things like this:
“The fact is that Ukraine, which is a non-nato country, is going to be vulnerable to military domination by Russia no matter what we do”.
I think all of it together is kinda a responsibility.
If Navalny is truly dead, I can only say that he was imprisoned unjustly, this death is a tragedy, and it's the fault of Russian society, which could never mobilise for any cause except for killing other people.
But as a Ukrainian, I despise his political position deeply.
“Please win the war against the most numerous army in Europe using 50 rusting jets and zero serious long-range capabilities. If you don’t win in 1,5 years the support will be over. Also we are so ahead of Russia in military production we could only give you 2000 shells per day”
I don't think we realise the level of cynicism US is openly bragging about. According to Blinken, “the idea has never been to exclude Russia or Mr. Putin” from the international stage.
He could steal children and kill Ukrainians.
Biden handshake is coming.
@NotionHQ
Guys. Just so you know, you promote a Russian community where members discuss how to manipulate your pricing rules and are using Ukrainian location due to the “favorable” exchange rate. Are you fine with that?
A reminder: Russia just unleashed one of the biggest ecological catastrophes of the recent decades and faced zero consequences. Zero.
And this is the course of this war: Russians will be unpunished and will only benefit from it, proudly making war crimes.
I don’t know what’s the deal, what kind of imaginary red lines are drawn, but it will be regarded as one of the most short-sighted decisions of foreign policy in the first half of XXI century.
When someone says Zelenskyy is too pushy in his demands, remember that endless meetings, letters, and delegations cost lives.
And he knows that.
He knows that his speech or private ask could either save people or increase loses. It's a position of ultimate pressure.
I don’t know why, but this is the most heartbreaking scene I’ve seen today when sheltering from Russian bombing. These are who they try to protect us from? This is de-nazification?!
People rightfully ask why didn't I report them. I didn't record the conversation, so it would be word against word. Also, I just got too angry and didn't think properly.
David Sacks, Elon Musk and MAGA crowd will spread same kind of lies if one day Russian forces decide to storm Narva or head for Rēzekne and Daugavpils. They will deny people their identity, question history and pull out Nazi card immediately. And of course blame NATO.
I won't get tired to cheer up Estonia support of Ukraine. To put things in context – it's like 2,25% of THE WHOLE POPULATION of the country. And they consistently sent us weapons too!
@AlarKaris
@kajakallas
– you and your people are simply the best
Feels like a time to tell you a personal story about RU society.
A huge part of my family is from Russia. I was there once, at 6yo. The only thing they cared about was to forcibly — in secret from my mother — baptize me.
Not a single one of them ever called since Feb 24.
@Nowooski
You can go to countries with a per capita GDP several DOZEN times lower than America and you will have a completely wonderful shopping experience with zero items locked and self-checkout. The problem is, at its core, cultural.
@GeorgyDesign
@NotionHQ
You do understand that’s the point of sanctions, right? To isolate the country that violates international law.
It also especially enraging that they are choosing Ukraine because of good exchange rate, profiting on the very same war they started and support.
@jdcmedlock
Not to mention that children would love some old Bradleys, HMMWVs and other assets that make up the biggest part of the aid packages, but otherwise would just collect dust, that's for sure.
If you ever be wondering why Ukrainians went from being a joyful, carefree people to basically the biggest nihilists and disbelievers in anything, here’s how. This is a daily occurrence now, where everyone makes sure Russia wins and Ukraine surrenders.
Prior to the war I got super tired of hearing about Ukraine as “third word country” and the poorest state in Europe.
So look, here is how I lived before this horrendous events. And what may never come back
If you think UN could be even more miserable and pointless… you are right. It’s now considered oppressive to simply teach children in the sole state language. Instead you must grow a population of unintegrated people
@Rail_splitter1
I don't.
You can see her saying military aid to Ukraine doesn't work.
You could remember Navalny's deputy advocating for Fridman.
She wants to decide who's in the sanctions list and who's not. Lucrative business.
And there are no "tens millions of anti-war Russians".
My great-grandparents relatives either died during Holodomor, were robbed with collectivisation, died in WWII or reduced to slaves afterwards with no rights and material prospects.
My grandparents were robbed upon USSR collapse: no savings, no property.
And here we go. No more those bitchy Ukrainians defending their country from being portrayed as a Neo-Nazi-riddled state for Eliot. It is much better to stick with Navalny's appeasers anyway.
@HuwSayer
I come to your house, screw out the front door and disable the security system. I say: “Don’t worry, we are going to protect you”. Later on the bulgars eventually break in. I say: “Well no matter what your house was vulnerable anyway. It’s your problem now”.
This is super serious development in Russian terroristic activities and war crimes. Please, RT, so the world can see how serious they are about destroying Ukraine.
@GeorgyDesign
@NotionHQ
You doubt it because you are Russian yourself, and you don't understand why we are pissed with Russians manipulating the laws repeatedly.
Not dealing with people who enabled the biggest war in Europe since WWII is simple business hygiene.
Ok, gotta be honest. Yes, I fled from Kyiv the day after the invasion with my girlfriend. Why? I have very poor eyesight, have no military training, and was trying to protect her.
And you know what? I feel like the greatest coward ever. Probably will never wash away that shame
@IAPonomarenko
I suppose even the quality of winter wear, supplier by Norway, Canada, Germany will be a major plus for Ukrainian forces as Russians will be freezing in their old vatniks.
Estonia is a state worth listening to. Remarks of President Lennart Meri from 1994 (!)
“Whoever really wants to help Russia and the Russian people today must make it emphatically clear to the Russian leadership that another imperialist expansion will not stand a chance”
I got reposted by PM of Estonia. To truly explain how cool is that for me, here is a pic I took in Kyiv metro, while sheltering from Russian bombs. That's an Estonian national emblem and my personal talisman in that journey.
And in the end. This is what Lennart Meri said at to the Council of Europe in 1995 (!), when pitching Estonia to join the organization. Just read it.

We are hopeful that soon, Ukraine will also be seated in this Assembly. Estonia shares your view that Ukraine is…
@krempovych
EU Parliament has a very strong obsession with Navalny. They already proclaimed Alexey a new Czar of Russia before that. And she was clever enough to frame it in just the right way.
@DavidSacks
At this point I’m subscribed to Sacks just to see how many new copium takes he can invent. And he never fails to deliver.
Also, Russia is the one to blame for nuclear threats and there is nothing wrong in US foreign policy toward this war right now.
I'm almost sure that Russians made a behind-the-door deal with the US where they don't use nuclear weapons, and Ukraine doesn't get full and continuous support. Everyone feels like they won.
Their favourite tactic is to demand everything and get something.
⚡️CNN: US prepared 'rigorously' for potential Russian nuclear strike in Ukraine in 2022.
Washington was "preparing rigorously" for a possible Russian nuclear strike in Ukraine in late 2022, which would have been the first nuclear attack in a war since the Hiroshima and Nagasaki…
When it’s a bad-performing metric, mention Ukraine.
When it’s a good one (actually one of the few democratically elected and overwhelmingly popular leaders) conveniently ignore Ukraine.
Also, nice reminder. You know where this colossal Motherland monument in Kyiv is looking? Her shield is directed at Russian city of Orel, and in more general way, at Moscow.
And now we see why.
Since Carlson is radicalized by a Russian grocery store, someone needs to smuggle him to Estonia — maybe he will be radicalized one more time by free public transport, online governmental services, saunas and Saarema gin. Unfortunately the Vastlakuklid season is over.
The year is 2024.
US is proudly flying to space with Russian AND Belarus.
Why not add Iran? North Korea?
With Elon being a Russian/Chinese simp, space is going to be run by autocracies soon too.
I’ve worked my ass off since I’m 17.
Yet you can imagine what a Ukrainian person entering the workforce in 2015 could count on by now.
It’s not that we don’t have generational wealth.
Each generation is wiped out economically.
@Nowooski
Obv Estonia is not that far economically, but still nowhere near close to the US. Here's the supermarket I go to every week. I just scan the items with my phone and use self-service. There's a random check every few months and that’s it. And no guards.
