I’m now realizing that I’ve been thinking about the below for the past 8 years, and it only crystallized recently.
*When* we achieve equitable learning outcomes for all learners, technology will have played an integral part of that achievement. How and when will that happen, and are we at least headed the right way? We WILL get there, but we are not headed the right way - why?. 🧵.

Feeling like a contrarian on here, but it kills me when we confuse security and privacy. What happened was a security failing. What we’re doing is cracking down on privacy. Students are harmed more by this website than the attacks described in the article.

So we’re clear: I believe there are shortages. I’ve heard from so many Ts looking to get into tech this summer. BUT there might be more important things to get frothy about? Like how our pols are systematically attacking our public ed systems with the aim of dismantling it.

For example, a quick Google search reveals that a typical Texas attrition rate has been as high as 12% (the 2020/2021 school year). Another quick Google search reveals that 800 vacancies is about 8% of Houston teachers. So maybe attrition is DOWN? 🤷🏽♂️.

Texas schools have long had too few teachers. The pandemic made the situation worse — but issues like low pay, poor benefits and polarizing statewide politics all have an impact, too.

I keep seeing this tweet, and I have nothing but questions. I’m sure there are shortages - I’ve seen way more teachers looking to get into EdTech than typical. It’s bugging me that in the replies no one is asking “What is a typical turnover, and is this more than normal?”.
