With the 2024-2025 residency application season in full swing, we would love to hear your thoughts on our findings! Should research be a crucial factor in residency applications? Are we emphasizing research too much? Is research simply a means to an end of many applicants?.

3) Following the transition to pass/fail scoring for USMLE Step 1 exams, the average research productivity of medical students matching into Top 50 urology programs is higher than it was prior. Is this due to pass/fail scoring, or is this the general trend in academia?.

2) Increased research productivity during residency, on the other hand, was significantly associated with pursuit of a fellowship or academic position after residency.

Our findings include: . 1) total medical school publications, total urology publications, and total first author publications were not associated with academic appointment (or fellowship) after residency, despite the rapidly evolving research arms race to match into urology.
