The smart move for the Cowboys now would be to trade Dak and Ceedee, tank for the No. 1 pick, and rebuild this thing with Manning and a bunch of picks like they did in the 90s. But this is the NFL, where nobody thinks bigger picture. So they’ll go 7-10 and accomplish nothing.

Yea I’m not saying it’s a certainty. I’m saying if we take a top-15 all-time player in his age 28-30 seasons, he probably doesn’t need the greatest team of all time to win a title. He plausibly could have with a standard, championship-caliber team, depending on circumstance.
But that’s a guess. What we know for fact is that he didn’t win before or after and he’s had championship level rosters before and after.

1. If KD had left for OKC for a team besides GSW, I think most roads lead to at least one title. BOS/LAC/SAS were all well-positioned. 2. They would've gotten the talent and figured the rest out later. 3. Remember, the actual 2018 Thunder paid a historic tax bill with Carmelo.
@SamQuinnCBS 1. Did KD still want to play with Russ? All signs point to no. 2. Would they've made the trade and force KD to play as a big?. 3. Would they pay all that salary ?. Those are some pretty big ifs.

Averaging a triple-double was absolutely impressive, especially for its rarity. But the rarity of a feat doesn't necessarily translate to value. I thought Harden was more valuable and Kawhi and LeBron were just better. Also, I denigrate Rose's MVP way more often.
@SamQuinnCBS He’s wrong & history will likely underrate Kawhi. But many players would state they’d rather have Russ’ career. His MVP is the only one you consistently denigrate as if he wasn’t a special player at the time. 4 years averaging a triple-double is not something to scoff at.

Can we play out the “Kevin Durant never gets a championship if he doesn’t come here” scenario?. Let’s say KD stays in OKC. They’d already made the Ibaka-Oladipo/Domas trade. So a year later they still could’ve traded for Paul George. I think KD-Russ-PG could’ve won a title.

Kawhi was better than Russ in the season in which Russ literally won MVP. I don’t think Kawhi was ever the best player in the NBA, but he had an argument in 2019. Russ never did. If OKC had healthy, prime Kawhi instead of Russ from 2012-2016 they’re winning multiple rings imo.
Jeff Teague says Kawhi didn’t have a better career than Russ, was never the best player in the league, and if you put Kawhi on those OKC teams, they wouldn’t win. “You don't have a league MVP, you was never the best player in the NBA”. (@club520podcast).

I wish we saw more trades like the MCW trade. Just a team going “yea the league likes our player way more than we do, we think this is fake.” Because behind the scenes that thought process definitely happens, but so few GMs have the stones to act on it.
One of my favorite trades ever. Hinkie, running a 12-41 team, trades MCW fresh off a 16/6/6 ROY season (all-time sell high). MCW would get 1:1 swapped for Tony snell a year later. Also, the pick conveyed in ‘18 (Mikal) traded for zhaire + FRP, FRP traded For Tobias, then for PG.

The Sixers already have three shooting guards they’re heavily invested in and the Nuggets functionally cannot match money on a $27 million salary without breaking up their starting lineup. There will be Simons interest out there by February but it won’t be from these teams.
