Big companies are full of mutual incomprehension: đźŹThere is almost as much difference in management approach across plants within one firm as across firms! đź’Marketing & R&D departments operate in different “thought worlds” - they literally have different ways of understanding

Balanced ecosystems have unexpected benefits. When Wisconsin reintroduced wolves, it “reduced [deer collisions] by 24%, yielding an economic benefit that is 63 times greater than the costs of verified wolf predation on livestock…” The graphs show it all! https://t.co/uutiKTywzK

How email ruins your life: the expectation that you will always check your email outside of work hours is linked with negative health effects, relationship issues & anxiety. Formal policies don’t limit email stress, instead it comes from the expectations of your bosses & peers.

"Move fast and break things" has implications for ethics as well Organizations that stress locomotion (getting things done as fast as possible) are more likely to have ethical lapses & to discriminate. The best way to avoid the risk is by to do frequent assessments & reflection

Petition to let disabled people write cyberpunk. “What if my arm was a gun” is not an interesting question. “What if I had to pay a monthly licensing fee to use my limbs” is.

A bias I wish everyone on Twitter knew: the Illusion of Explanatory Depth: "People feel they understand complex phenomena with far greater precision, coherence & depth than they really do." Try to explain how something works to yourself. It shatters the Illusion & lets you learn

If your wages are so low that no one wants to work for you, that sounds like a business problem, not a worker problem

I don't think folks fully realize just how many people stick in awful jobs they hate to keep the health insurance. There's a reason big companies have spent billions fighting universal health care even though it would save them trillions in employee premiums.

The fact that 8 months ago there were 0 unionized Starbucks stores & now there are 200 is absolutely insane and a testament to the hard work and class consciousness of Starbucks baristas

2 years ago we asked employees where they want to work. We told them: OK, just work wherever. As a CEO, what do I care? Just get your work done. The results? Last year we had record sales and record retention. We now have employees in 33 states and get 300 applications per job.

To recap 1. Airlines spent 96% of free cash on stock buybacks for a decade 2. They got a $50 billion bailout & cut 90,000 jobs anyway 3. They returned to billions in profits, paid back $0 to taxpayers & raised ticket prices 16% 4. They canceled the 2nd-most flights ever this year

I’ve avoided tweeting about the white supremacist massacre so not to dishonor the dead in anyway. But I keep obsessing over the constant drumbeat of the last year abt the dangers of CRT when the literal violent danger of the white supremacy CRT exposes has been downplayed/denied.

The amount Elon Musk just paid for Twitter ($44 billion) is nearly equal to Biden’s proposed climate budget ($44.9 billion), in case anyone's wondering how seriously we’re taking the climate crisis
