So true. Part of the issue is SPVs don't allow for angels to really *get to know* the founders, a condition extremely important for building conviction pre-signal (often at pre-seed you're betting on the people vs. the traction). Not sure the best way to solve.
By far the most frustrating part of leading a syndicate is the reliance of LPs to have a Tier 1 lead investing alongside the deal (especially at pre-seed). That is obviously not how decision making should work, but it is.

2/ While easy to get excited over new tech, the breakout companies will likely be those that START with a focus on solving a core problem for desperate customers. If AI solves the problem in a superior, or unique way, all the better.

One of my favorite tools back in the day was Clara Labs (i.e., 'ask Clara') the AI virtual assistant. Would love to see @Calendly use ChatGPT to offer something similar, but better.

Good reminder for investors to always ask yourself why *you* are receiving allocation.
Substack launched a community round at a $650M valuation (same as 2 yrs ago from A16Z). Substack is great, but investors in a company at this stage should be able to see financials IMO. Listing does not show revenue (which I've seen projected @ ~$20M).
