@Cityofstgeorge @KUTV2News Large retailers typically choose cities due to their population size and average income levels, but Thomas says St. George has been able to attract more than its size warrants. He says this is due to quick building permits, success of past stores and a strong quality of life.

@Cityofstgeorge @KUTV2News Thomas says these added customers contributing to sales tax allow property taxes to stay down. The city hasn’t raised property taxes since 1987. “We’re very conscious of that, so we’re trying to create a vibrant business community that supports our sales tax,” he said.

The city of St. George says currently under construction are In-N-Out Burger, Chase Bank, Chipotle and Ace Hardware. Also coming soon are Megaplex Theatres, two credit unions, Cafe Rio, Starbucks and Kenworth auto sales.

A second Costco opened in St. George today off Exit 2, an area experiencing rapid growth. “When you hook a fish such as a second Costco, people are starting to pay attention,” said economic development director Chad Thomas. “Our inquiries are up dramatically the last few weeks.”

Workers say there will be traffic control through the weekend.

Construction employees said they’re frustrated that cars have been speeding all day above the 25 mph limit. Police say they’ve had extra patrol in the area this week citing speeders. "When they're not paying attention, people get run over," said one city construction worker.

The driver told police he was reaching to grab a charging cord from his backseat and veered off into the construction lane. Police said evidence does support this. Police said he then hit two manholes — the second with the construction worker inside it. @KUTV2News

The county says this location was chosen due to its easy commute to Cedar City or Hurricane. They also say it has better availability for utility infrastructure, and will soon have access to new grocery and commercial projects coming to Leeds and Toquerville. @KUTV2News

Washington County is proposing adding multi-family housing zoning along I-15 from mile marker 16 (Hurricane) to 31 (Pintura). “Here in Washington County we have an affordability problem, and we’re trying to give people more access to affordable housing,” said Victoria Hales.

The water district says Gunlock Reservoir, which is 106% full, will supply irrigation water for Ivins, Santa Clara, and West St. George. But, they say drinking water reservoirs are only at 70% capacity, requiring water conservation efforts moving forward. https://t.co/gcBPJglJN7

The Gunlock State Park waterfalls are flowing, a rare phenomenon the water district said has only happened 4 times in the past 15 years. While this normally indicates a healthy water supply, WCWCD says it was not indicative of the whole county, which is experiencing a dry winter.

New details on the triple homicide in Wayne County: DPS has released the names of all three victims who were killed Wednesday. They are 86-year-old Margaret Oldroyd, 65-year-old Linda Dewey, and 34-year-old Natalie Graves. @KUTV2News

Gary Bryan of Bryan Auto Parts says he picked up the triple homicide suspect Ivan Miller around 11pm Saturday night after he hit an elk on Highway 24, totaling his car. He said Miller said he was from Iowa traveling for a few days and would pick up the car next Saturday.

The St. George Police Department say a bus driver was filming an accident with his phone while driving students. Vista School confirms it was one of their buses. Troy Bradshaw with Vista School says HR is still in discussion on whether the driver will keep his duties.

Police say they add extra patrols on the weekend and expect bars to have adequate security. Spiritual Bar says they deny entry to anyone showing signs of intoxication and have highly trained bouncers.
