Spot on. When A&M plays Notre Dame next year and Texas plays Ohio State and etc, there's no reason to do it because you're better off just going 6-2 in the SEC and not putting that 10-2 overall at any sort of risk. I used the two in-state examples but it's for the entire SEC.

Notre Dame gets to play teams like Pitt whose coach said the game doesn’t matter. There’s NOTHING at risk for teams who play ND. They are just an exhibition game at this point. It’s crazy to watch the Harlem Globetrotters of College Football get a spot in the playoff. 🤣
