If I were in charge of a beloved New York nonprofit with a budget shortfall I might take a look at the dense layers of middle and upper management before laying off the creative geniuses responsible for the fact that New Yorkers love us. But then, I didn’t go to business school
Hello from the other side! 👋After working there for 29 years 👵, @WNYC laid me off 🪓 I wasn’t alone. So, so many talented hosts, producers and editors were laid off, too! It was fun while it lasted! Send cat pics. (And job offers.)

I worked at WNYC for 11 years. Seems like we were always dealing with some kind of change & turmoil. And the salaries of upper mgmt never suffered for it. You know what never changed, though? That the people who actually MAKE the content kept their heads down and worked.
THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us in recent days and said NO to layoffs. Following negotiations with the union, NYPR management agreed to enhanced severance terms and limited buyouts but is not pursuing other alternatives to try to save jobs.

The worst SCOTUS related news to come out of the first week in October. Really hard to process what a loss this is
The incredibly talented team @MorePerfect lost our jobs today. I’m feeling so grateful for the time we spent telling vital, heartbreaking, damn good stories about the high court. And now, we plot the next move 👀

For anyone still on this platform, I'll note that probably every one of your favorite podcasts/ radio shows had someone on staff that passed through WNYC. It's been an incredible place for talented people to hone the craft and either move on or stick it out and do great work.

I will never not love WNYC. Which is to say, I will always love the people who make it. And through their work, they’ve consistently shown they love their listeners, and their readers, and their city, and their world. Solidarity with my WNYC family past and present. And love.

Thinking of all my friends at WNYC who are facing layoffs today, whether they're losing their jobs or having to go about their day while their colleagues are losing theirs. Saying it's a sad day for journalism doesn't do it justice.

Pregnant people are being forced to travel or wait for medical care as they get sicker. Doctors and nurses are leaving their jobs. For @reveal, I talked about some cascading impacts of the abortion bans in Texas—and about being pregnant myself here while doing this reporting.
It's been nearly a year since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. In Texas, doctors face impossible choices, fearing criminal prosecution if they perform lifesaving abortions. 🎧 This week: The Post-Roe Health Care Crisis https://t.co/Zo4SAeB4WU
