Books can change the narrative around immigration, that’s currently impacting our children…. THIS IS WHO I AM, a picture book celebrating identity & belonging, about a child of immigrants, is a perfect example-written by @RashmiWriting & beautifully illustrated by Ruchi Mhasane.
Books open eyes and hearts and minds. They inspire children to be proud of who they are, to appreciate and celebrate others, and to see that everyone can be the hero of their own stories. I hope this one finds its way to readers. 💛📖

“Don’t dress it up. Don’t excuse it. It’s scum behaviour, and it shames our town …That’s intimidation. And it’s criminal.”.It “is a disgrace to our flag and our nation. Silence has allowed hate to grow.”.
“I was so hurt. It was so close to home. My local masjid. It felt like a real kick in the teeth.”. “My wife & baby are growing up here. I want to move out of the area. I just cannot stay here.”. I spoke to Muslims in Essex following an attack on a mosque.

And another from today .
Poor man was just being interviewed by @SkyNews and watch thehorrific abuse he got from women (they seem drunk) shouting "are country . raping are kids". Horrible. He's a British citizen. An innocent man just trying to say how he feels.

As schools return, what strategies will be used to address the racism our children experienced or perpetrated?.Serious safeguarding measures must be implemented.Serious safeguarding questions must be asked.Children learn to be #racist .We must teach them to be #antiracist.
Where do you start with this? Parents in Portsmouth who let their kids be part of this should be ashamed of themselves. I'm gobsmacked, poor things what chance have they got?

Results so far are pretty much as expected - it seems schools are simply going to ignore the blatant #racism our communities have been experiencing during the summer yet again…. #edutwitter silent again?.
To all in the #edutwitter community - what are your plans for next term, to address the racist violence being directed, ostensibly towards people seeking asylum and in reality to anyone deemed Muslim or not really British?.
